Yes, as soon as people can get the ATmega163, it is just a matter
of buing the SIMM100 and plug it in and voila, use it ;-). There
is only one small "catch" (to make it 100% SimmStick compatible) and
that is to swap two wires for the I2C pins, so they appear on
the right pins on the SimmStick bus, like this:

Swap wires D8 (23) with SCL (10)
Swap wires D9 (24) with SDA (11)

That if you want to use the hardware I2C according to SimmStick
standard, but of course it is possible to use them on the other
pins as well. The ATmega163 wasn't announced at the time the
SIMM100 was made and I didn't want to change the layout due to
compability when we made an update 2 months ago, since over
350+ boards where sold totally.
SIMM100: http://www.lawicel.com/simmstick/simm100/

I'm currently working on a SMD version of it for the ATmega163
and also a version of AT90S8515 with SMD & 32kRAM, both to be
2" boards with a large proto area (same type as SIMM101 that
could be seen at http://www.lawicel.com/simmstick/simm101/
First out will be the SIMM102 with AT90S8515 in December and
as soon as I get my ATmega163's the other board will be availible,
which I guess will occur in late January or February, but I will
first use this board with SMD versions of AT90S8535. So you
know what you can expect from me ;-)

Hi Lars,

to play safe dont expext 8535's in TQFP
and dont expect ATmega163 in DIP

so if making ATmega163 board just count for
TQFP ATmega163 it is available already now from Insight

Nope, I figured that one out and have ordered
one tray (=160ea) this week. I have those in
February. I have 2 samples.

Yes, it will be an SMD version.

The above means I ordered the AC version (=TQFP).

>> so if making ATmega163 board just count for
>> TQFP ATmega163 it is available already now from Insight

Yes, they are. Those there will just be a small batch,
when they are gone, you have to wait again, since Atmel
isn't manufacturing them yet. These are "left overs"
etc. that Insight probably ordered to get some in stock
and they are the "old" type with the big silicon die.
Atmel are now shrinking the die and the ATmega163 is
the first one out, next ATmega103. They havn't started
making them yet, so you have to wait till february or
so before you get them. The ones before that is old
style and they are not making more of that with the
ATmega163, According to Atmel represantative here in
Sweden, they will go in production in December.

Lars,

do I get you right: Atmel has given you release dates for ATmega104 ?!

Please if it so please respond to my private email, get use
http://www.case2000.com/members.php?id=3 link to get my email
(the egroups is hiding direct emails addresses).

Atmel has told us about new devices and we have some other
info but so far not release dates.

As of ATmega163 hatteland is confirming stock for 3V version
for week 50 this year (700 pcs also overleft)

Atmel has promised 163 general availability from Jan 2001
(for orders placed latest in september)

cheers

Hi,

Nope, just a die shrink of ATmega103 to get out more of the same
silicon (i.e. increase production). If this is to be named Mega104
I don't know, but I don't think so, it is just a die shrink.

Interesting, I spoke to them this Monday and nothing then.

Yep, but it is November now ;-) so many missed that train.

Can't wait to get my products out with it.

Need a keyboard debounce routine for PICmicros?

BUTTON pin, port, state, delay, repeat_rate
This routine debounces input from a pushbutton and jumps to an
"action" routine. The pin (0-7), port (0-2 for RA through RC),
action state of the input (0,1) are all specified at run time.
The delay and repeat rate are constants.

Hi Antti,

Its been a long time since we talked:) Are the FPSLIC's available yet? I
was drooling when I first saw these, a microcontroller and an FPGA combined
in one package....thats great! I seem to be doing lots of designs these
days that involve hooking an FPGA to a micro of some sort. You loose a
bunch of IO when you hook up the data and address bus but it is an
interesting idea. The interesting SimmStick product for someone to do is
make a SimmStick with one of these and write some reconfigurable Verilog
code. I.E. make it so that the user can setup what hardware they want in
the FPGA, I.E. timers, seiral ports, I2C, etc, etc by writing some
registers. If the user could configure the outputs using registers you
could create a microcontroller with extermely configurable built in
hardware. Think how useful that would be. Every time I do a project with
micro, I'm always short a timer for an extra PWM output or I need another
serial port or something like that. Of course more advanced users could
just write their own Verilog. I thought this would be a really
interesting project a couple months ago but I decided it would be too big a
project for me to take on right now. Too bad they don't have an ARM verion
of this.

Hi Ben and others!

YES FPSLIC (FPGA + AVR) are there, in the matter of fact an FPSLIC
starterkit is on my desk flashing some leds right now!

on fpslic mailing list there is an example AVR program for the
starterkit, with instructions how to download 'avr only' bitstream to
FPSLIC. I havent yet been able to make my own FPGA configurations,
but probably I will succeed today.

as of RISC+FPGA another product is to be launched next tuesday:
cypressmicro PSoC, as egroups didnt allow PSoC mailinglist then
PSoC mailinglist is on listbot.com :)

www.cypressmicro.com is the site for the makers of PSoC but all
information is currently withheld from publication.

We have received email from them with notice that PSoC datasheets
will be available next tuesday. PSoC silicon should sample this
november (not confirmed)

PSoC has progammable analog and digital blocks.

Hi Gang,
the DS18S20 High Precision 1 Wire Digital Thermometer chip is becoming
very popular, however I kept getting asked the same question, and I can
understand why, as I was confused about this point, and after a long
exchange with the dealers, then Dallas, I have found that the DS18S20
device is actually marked DS1820.

DS18S20 in a TO-92 3 pin Package.
Dallas-Semi High Precision 1 Wire Digital Thermometer.
Get your own PDF Data from
http://www.dalsemi.com/datasheets/pdfindex.html
The package will be marked DS1820 and will have no "S" in it, however
after chasing this up with Dallas, Tech
Support tells me that in Jan-2000 and onwards, they only manufactured
the "S" version, but it still retains the DS1820 marking on the device.
I think it would have been a lot easier for us to explain to our
customers, if they simply put the "S" there. The date can be found in
the document: 40-18s20-000.pdf This explains that the 'YY' and "WW"
(year and week of manufacture) are found directly under the "DS1820"
marking. The last two digits in that group are the lot code.

Don is doing a wonderful job of introducing new SimmSticks.

I had asked a while ago if there were any demand for a particular type of
SimmStick. I think I got a little action on the A/D converter front.

Are there any other ideas for new boards? (I'm thinking peripherals: like a
DTMF board, for example.)

I came across your site today and I am very interested in your SimmStick

68HC11.
I have used 68HC11s for a number of years and I am interested in
designing a
SimmStick HC11 controller board. If you would be interested in
marketing
such a design please can you let me know and give me an indication of
acceptable price range, functionality and expected sales volume.

comments here welcome also.

I've been tossing up the idea of putting an IDE interface, MP3
decoder chip, and audio DACs on a single simmstick. What do people
think? Would there be much interest in something like this?
